Organizing

I have been spending time linking my blog and twitter to build a few connections and hopefully learning how to use the features of both more. Need to be getting many more things done, but it is so easy to start reading others tweets and blogs, which is informative, though very time consuming.  Visited one of my favorite knitting blogs... The Yarn Harlot and it took a lot of will power to keep from reading more than a few days.  Of course a visit back is on the agenda in the near future.

It will be nice to get in the habit of using pics on each blog, hopefully soon.  Just need to be more organized in general, because certain things must be done, but it doesn't seem like everything should be so time consuming.  One thing cut way back on in my schedule, is going to the store, since it is a real time and money saver just not to.  When shopping it is important to save money by watching sales adds, use coupons and check for rebates/register rewards.  Keeping a list, comparing prices with a calculator and trying to get only what is needed helps to save money and time.

Clearing brush

The weather has cooled and areas around the house need cleaning out.  Weeds taller than a person seem to spring up overnight.  The extremely hot weather has prevented me from doing much outside, but it doesn't stop the weeds and sprouts from growing.  It is so nice to have friend who are willing come and work with me for such a long time.  I had two friends help me out a lot, one piled the cut weeds and limbs. Jerry, who used to be a neighbor, ran a weed-eater most of the day.  I ran my weed whacker, the pruner, and my chainsaw.  The poison ivy has come back, due to not keeping up with the yard work, so now it is showing up on my arms a little and a small patch on my face.

Trip to dorm

Moved my daughter, Katie, back to college.  Last year it was a nice 4 bedroom apartment, with a large living room, two baths, a washer and dryer.  She is sharing a dorm room this year.  There isn't much room, in fact, the two of them share a room that is smaller than the bedroom she had last year.  Classes start Monday.

Tree trimming

This morning around 8a.m. I was over the old fixer upper house just west of JCMO, with some friends.  One couple drove their bucket truck, brought a small Stihl chain saw and some rope.  We were able to cut some dead limbs down out of a tree and there was one wedged between the tree and the roof of the house.  At one point a rope had to be tied onto the large limb, which went through a fork in the tree and then tied to my car.  As the limb was cut, the rope was held tight and prevented it from slamming onto the porch roof.  When it was freed from the tree, I backed up the car, lowering the bottom end to the ground.  It was still as tall as the two story house, so needed cut a few more times to get it down from the porch roof the rest of the way.  After that my friend with the bucket truck left, then  another friend and I cleared more weeds and stacked wood that I had cut up several months ago.  We will have to go back tomorrow morning with my Stihl chainsaw, so the big limbs that were cut down today, can be cut up into firewood.   I'm always careful using large tools, like making sure to wear safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.  There are dog ears, which are industrial strength noise reducing ear muffs, on my hardhat.

Crab Legs

Went out for supper this evening.  Red Lobster crabs legs.  Really like their buttery garlic biscuits also.  Was able to try something new...  carrots that are bright yellow, which were in their vegetable mix with regular carrots, broccoli, and snow peas in a buttery garlic juice that was great for dipping the crab meat into.  I subscribe to the Red Lobsters website email.  Sometime there are some pretty good coupons and discounts offered that can save several dollars on your total bill.

Brush cutter

This morning I got up and started clearing brush for the second time this week.  I ran the weedwacker and used the pruner on a bunch of the bigger weeds and tree limbs.  Progress was made.  Cut a few tree limbs that were bigger than I should have tackled with the pruners.  Braced the loppers on my right shoulder and used both arms to pull the handles together, which strained both the wooden handles and my shoulder.  It would be better to use my chain saw on things that are more than an inch and a half diameter from now on.

Yoga

I hate to even admit this, but have not been to yoga class since school started the first part of June.  Just a little stretching and a few poses each day is all I've been doing.  It is helping me stay flexible, but not quite enough to keep my muscles strong, and barely enough to work my mind. I find my self checking my breathing fairly often to make sure it is not shallow.

Textbooks, to rent or buy?

It was much cheaper to rent my Business book and buy the other, a used Surveying book I wanted to keep, than to purchase them used from the University bookstore.  Textbooks for rent and sale... www.collegebookrenter.com

Heat Wave

We have been breaking temperature records in Mid MO, so I have decided to put a pool on my back deck.  Having it will help me cool off after doing things outside.  My house is brick and if the electricity should go out, it will be worse inside than out.  The sun heats the brick up so much, it's like the easy bake oven. The ac quit one summer and the temperature inside the house didn't get below 90' even at night.  Yesterday the high was 107 in JCMO which tied a long standing record.  Just to the north, CoMo broke their record with a high of 108.  Today has been much of the same and is supposed to continue for approximately another 10 days. I'm calling it a Swelterfest, when KRCG TV 13 asked what to name the heatwave.

Know God, Know life.

Do you ever wonder if God is paying attention to your fears and woes?  Being a Christian doesn't automatically mean you will not have problems.  Though the Bible does tell us, so long as we follow Him, He will take care of us.  God is in ultimate control and people who commit unjust acts intending to harm others will face Him one way or another.

"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me." (Psalm 138:7)
